During the end of my freshman year, I decided to apply to be an Ambassador for the office Minority Affairs and Diversity Recruitment and Outreach office. Since then, I was promoted to Lead Ambassador my junior year and maintained that position throughout my senior year. The purpose of my job is to promote higher education and the University of Washington to K-12 students of color through outreach events and programs in the community.
Working with mainly students of color from the K-12 group and promoting higher education was the most influential experience that has led me to where I am today. Before coming to the UW, I was not sure what cause I was most passionate for, was it the health care system, incarceration in the U.S., homelessness, education, etc. Through this job, I was able to find my calling: the opportunity gap in the United States' education system. Not just an interest, but I have readily committed my academic and professional life to doing what I can to close that gap.
